FOR PSYCHOLOGY/SOCIAL WORK STUDENTS

The internship program is designed to provide an all-round exposure to the student of psychology/social work about the functioning of a mental health department in a general clinic setup. The enrolment in the program is on a monthly basis available in 4 modules – one month program, two month program, three month program and six month program.

One Month Internship Program

  • What the program offers to the Intern
  • The one month internship program is built around an Observership based model.
  • The program would involve rotations with Psychiatrists and Clinical Psychologists. Observation of work done is in the Out Patient Department utilizing the Consultation Liaison Psychiatry model.
  • The intern would be allowed to view consults with the psychiatrist, sessions with the clinical psychologist (only upon consent from the patient).
  • Academic curricula of the program
  • The internship program involves weekly academic classes. The classes would be conducted by our trained and expert Psychiatrists or Psychologists at each facility.
  • The academic curricula would include:
    • Week 1 – Case history taking and MSE
    • Week 2 – Psychodiagnostics
    • Week 3 – Clinical Diagnosis
    • Week 4 – Basics of Counselling and Psychotherapy
  • Theory Classes would be held once every week.
  • The intern would be provided reading material on a weekly basis with regard to the topic to be covered in the week, by the supervisor in the facility chosen by the intern.
  • The intern would be provided intensive supervision by the Psychiatrist/Clinical Psychologist available at each facility, relating to cases observed in out-patient units.

Two Month Internship Program:

  • What the program offers to the Intern
  • The two month internship program offers an amalgamation of an Observership based model along with the opportunity to work one-on-one with patients.
  • The first month of training would involve in-depth observation of the work done in rotations with Psychiatrists and Clinical Psychologists.
  • The intern would be allowed to view consults with the psychiatrist, sessions with the clinical psychologist (only upon consent from the patient) and psychological evaluation procedures in the Out Patient Department.
  • In the second month, based on the competencies displayed by the intern, learning opportunities will be provided in the form of direct interactions with patients for case history taking and MSE and conduction of tests for IQ, Learning Disability, and behavioral problems (only objective). This would be done at the discretion of the Clinical Psychologist supervising the intern.
  • The entire process will be invigilated by Psychiatrists which help the intern to utilize the Consultation Liaison Psychiatry model.

    • Week 2 – Psychodiagnostics I (Educational and Behavioral functioning tests)
    • Week 3 – Psychodiagnostics II (Emotional and Neuropsychological functioning tests)
    • Week 4 – Clinical Diagnosis I (Anxiety disorders, Mood disorders, Somatoform Disorders)
    • Week 5 – Clinical Diagnosis II (Psychotic Disorders, Eating Disorders, Impulse Control Disorders)
    • Week 6 – Clinical Diagnosis III (Disorders of Infancy and Childhood)
    • Week 7 – Psychotherapy with Adults
    • Week 8 – Psychotherapy with Children and Adolescents
  • Classes would be held once every week.
  • The intern would be provided reading material on a weekly basis with regard to the topic to be covered in the week, by the supervisor in the facility chosen by the intern.
  • The intern would be provided intensive supervision by the Psychiatrist/Clinical Psychologist available at each facility, relating to cases observed both in the in-patient and out-patient units.

Three Month Internship Program:

  • What the program offers to the Intern
  • The three month internship program offers an amalgamation of an Observership based model along with the opportunity to work one-on-one with patients and also gives an opportunity to conduct survey technique related to psychological research work.
  • The first month of training would involve in-depth observation of the work done in rotations with Psychiatrists and Clinical Psychologists.
  • The intern would be allowed to view consults with the psychiatrist, sessions with the clinical psychologist (only upon consent from the patient) and psychological evaluation procedures in the Out Patient Department.

    • Week 10- Different Methodological Models of survey in psychology.
    • Week 11- Field work.

  • The intern would be provided reading material on a weekly basis with regard to the topic to be covered in the week, by the supervisor in the facility chosen by the intern.
  • The intern would be provided intensive supervision by the Psychiatrist/Clinical Psychologist available at each facility, relating to cases observed in the out-patient units.

Six Month Internship Program

  • What the program offers to the Intern
  • The six month internship program offers an amalgamation of an Observership based model along with the opportunity to work one-on-one with patients and also gives an opportunity to conduct survey technique related to psychological research work. This course also has the additional benefit of learning neuro-psychology with a preliminary exposure of different kinds of instruments used in psychological treatment.
  • The first month of training would involve in-depth observation of the work done in rotations with Psychiatrists and Clinical Psychologists.
  • The intern would be allowed to view consults with the psychiatrist, sessions with the clinical psychologist (only upon consent from the patient) and psychological evaluation procedures in the Out Patient Department.
  • From the second month onwards, based on the competencies displayed by the intern, learning opportunities will be provided in the form of direct interactions with patients for case history taking and MSE and conduction of psychological tests. This would be done at the discretion of the Clinical Psychologist supervising the intern.
  • In the third and fourth month, based on the competencies displayed by the intern, learning opportunities will be provided in the form of survey based research work which enhances the work experience of the intern in community based welfare program under the supervision of the psychiatrist and the psychologists.
  • In the fifth and sixth month, based on the competencies displayed  by the intern learning opportunities will be provided in the form of neuropsychological perspective with a preliminary exposure to different kinds of instruments used in psychological treatments.

    • Week 21 – Mental Retardation and Learning Disability
    • Week 23 – Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Conduct Disorder and Oppositional Defiant Disorder
    • Week 24 – Pervasive Developmental Disorders
  • Classes would be held once every week.
  • The intern would be provided reading material on a weekly basis with regard to the topic to be covered in the week, by the supervisor in the facility chosen by the intern.
  • The intern would be provided intensive supervision by the Psychiatrist/Clinical Psychologist available at each facility, relating to cases observed, in out-patient units.
  • Research
  • The intern would be expected to complete a research within the stipulated time period of the internship.
  • The idea for the research would need to be presented within the first two weeks of the internship program.
  • Following approval from the Lead Psychiatrist and the Supervising Clinical Psychologist, the intern would be permitted to continue with the proposed research.
  • Following the completion of the research, which should be by the fifth month of the internship, the intern would be expected to write a paper and attempt for publication within an indexed journal.

Expectations from the Intern

  • The intern would be expected to use DSM V as well as Kaplan and Saddock’s Synopsis of Psychiatry as a reference for understanding and developing a working knowledge of psychiatric disorders.
  • The intern would be expected to read all reading material provided on a weekly basis prior to the class, in order to facilitate a didactic and discussion based approach.
  • All interns would be provided a certificate endorsed by the Moner alo mental health care pvt.ltd at the end of the internship program.
  • The pricing for the internship program is Rs. 12,000/- per month (4 weeks)  for full time and Rs 8000/- per month (4 weeks) for part time to be paid by cheque in favour of “Moner Alo mental health care pvt.ltd”.
  • Documentation Required (2 xerox copies, self attested): Application mentioning the dates and whether full time or part time; letter from institute mentioning you are a bonafide student; ID; CV; 2 passport size photographs and cheque as above.
