Eating disorder is characterised by irregular and unhealthy eating habits that have severe impact on your health and weight. 1.There are mainly three types of Eating Disorders:

Anorexia Nervosa: It is the obsessive fear of gaining weight resulting in an unrealistic or negative perception of body image. People suffering from Anorexia Nervosa limit their quantity of food intake as they always view themselves as being overweight.

Bulimia Nervosa: This eating disorder is characterised by a period of binge eating followed by forceful purging cycle. People suffering from Bulimia Nervosa too have a negative perception about their body image. They indulge in overeating and then either vomit the food they ate or use laxatives or diuretics to compensate the episode of overeating.

Binge Eating: People suffering from this disorder do not have any control over their food intake. They are usually overweight and as a result, suffer from different health risks.

2.Eating disorders can be genetic or can be a way of coping with psychological issues caused by any trauma, family or social issues. Eating disorder can have numerous reasons.

3.People suffering from Eating disorder usually suffer from other psychological issues such as depression, substance abuse, loneliness, anxiety, and so on. 4.It was British Physician Sir Richard Morton who first recorded a medical description of Anorexia. He recorded two cases involving a boy and a girl. He described the girl as “sad and anxious” and “pored over books”. In case of the boy, Morton described him as “prone to studying too hard.”

5.The term Anorexia Nervosa was coined by Sir William Gull who was the physician of Queen Victoria. He mentioned the term Anorexia Nervosa in his book Anorexia Hysterica. It was due to his work that the study of Anorexia was included into the field of Psychiatric studies.
