It is normal for every human being to feel blue at various points of their life. But when someone is gripped by an unwavering sense of sadness and hopelessness, it can disrupt their day-to-day life.  It’s the sign that you are slipping into the hollow called “depression.” This can result in serious emotional and mental damage and that’s why it’s important to identify and manage signs of depression. Check for these signs:
1.You make an effort to look extremely happy
The most seemingly happy person might be depressed at heart. People usually relate depression with gloomy and sad faces. But a person who’s fighting depression knows how to mask them. If a person is making an effort to be happy and appear joyous, mark it as a sign of depression.
2.Abnormal Sleeping and Eating habits
This is a subtle sign but can have a grave impact. Both food and sleep are important for our well-being. A person suffering from depression shows little or no control over these activities. They either sleep too much (for escaping their problems) or too little (stress makes it impossible to sleep). The same goes with eating.
3.Lack of Energy
A depressed person feels less energetic. A sense of fatigue lingers on them which makes them feel demotivated and result in a low mood.
4.Physical Symptoms
Depression often manifests itself in severe headaches, abdominal or muscle pain. The body has its own way of responding. These aches and pain become a regular affair when a person is depressed.
5.Feel Burned out
Depressed people are the easy victims of stress, especially at the workplace. They often feel overworked or burned out. If this feeling of burnout is lingering, then this is a sign of depression.
6.Lack of focus
Being preoccupied with sadness and emptiness makes it difficult for the brain to focus on things. This affects memory and decision-making skills and results in unhealthy behaviour.
